CAD Designer

Purpose: This position is responsible for performing top-down new and existing product and equipment design, supportive drawings duties within the Engineering Design department. 

This CAD Designer is responsible for creating product designs, machine designs and/or developing, procuring and designing prototypes and or products to develop GTI intellectual and patented innovative products, systems, and equipment to meet directed specifications as provided by GTI Executive Management, Sales or Marketing members. Under minimal supervision and guidance, the Designer uses technical descriptions, sketches and verbal direction to develop, design or draft actual or conceptual products. Daily, the Designer will use knowledge of material qualities and properties, material standards, industrial processes and manufacturing procedures to complete this job. The assignments are project and/or product specific and will be measured on an effort-by-effort basis. This person will have experience collaborating with multiple departments, titles and those with a vast comprehensive design knowledge, education and experience.

Job Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

  • Design and create complex drawings and 3D models/assemblies, layouts, of products/systems, machines, per specifications, and verbal advisement/directives.
  • Review details for design soundness, manufacturability, and sustain durable operation.
  • Ensure quality of drawings and functionality of equipment.
  • Acquire measurements and complete as-built drawings for finished products.
  • Review mechanical designs for new product parts, subassemblies and assembly configurations.
  • Identify design flaws, recommend workable solutions and manufacture modifications.
  • Prepare BOM (Bills Of Material), specifications and change orders (ECO/ECN)
  • Design product layout and packaging with focus on DFM and Cost sensitivity
  • Assist in finding solutions to design issues that impact product quality.
  • Evaluate and analyze prototypes and design concepts.
  • Review or interpretation of engineering plans provided by others to determine correct component orientation and material lists for produced product is required.
  • Analyze and create plans and diagrams provided to determine compatibility designs or specifications. Inputs to internal customers to provide comments on manufacturing or construction activities to include or meet GTI innovative product target designs.
  • Draw rough sketches or arrange finished drawings or designs to illustrate specified materials or component assembly sequence into an overall design.
  • Work closely with Executive Management, Field Application Sales and Engineering/Design Department members to translate product and industry requirements into technical specifications and conceptual designs.
  • Works with the GTI Product Development Team to ensure that reliability, ease of manufacturability and superior quality are included in the design of new products.
  • Teams with appropriate members to have technical documents, manuals, bulletins, brochures, publications, training manuals and special reports created and accessible to company members.
  • Research product design, capabilities, and compatibility ranges as required and directed by the manager.
  • Research industry standards, governmental regulations, certifications and certifying bodies as designated by manager ensuring that specified products are designed, produced and evaluated to appropriate standards, and that they meet target market and customer expectations.
  • Review various resources and prepare analyses or summaries.
  • Participate in meetings as required with various managers and sales to ensure that specifications are clearly defined and understood before commencement of production of new products.
  • Support design team with first article inspection when assigned by executive directive or department manager.
  • As needed and designated by executive directive or department manager, support the need for, and completion of, 3rd party product and process testing and approval.
  • Performs other duties as deemed necessary or as required and assigned by the manager.

Education and Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or equivalent experience.
  • 2-5+ years of related design/drafting experience and CAD/CAM required.
  • Proficient with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and Microsoft Office Software.
  • Industrial, Mechanical, Automation, and Electrical design experience with knowledge a plus.
  • Knowledge of ASME, ANSI, ISO and CSA standards is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of ratings and specifications of valves, fittings, tubing, hydraulics, pneumatics, PLC, engineered resins and equipment a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal – verbal and written communication skills.
  • Initiative-taker with ability to multitask and work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to participate as a team member.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of machine design, background and experience in oil and gas valve design a plus.

CNC Operator-Programmer

Our R&D/Tool Room Department is in need of a CNC Operator-Programmer who has hands on experience with various types of CNC equipment. Extreme plus to experience with HAAS VF2 machine center and HAAS ST25 lathe.

The CNC Operator is responsible for shop floor program editing, operating and maintaining CNC machine centers consisting of vertical and horizontal mills and CNC lathe. Experience with Fanuc, and HAAS controls with knowledge of CamWorks must be a constant effort of achievement. Proficient in selecting machine and cutting tools, perform all tool set up and basic maintenance. Employee must be comfortable taking drawing or verbal instructions directly from engineering to part production, reverse production, existing copy and all steps between.

 

Responsibilities (Include but are not limited to):

  • Shop Floor programming for initial operation, transfer and editing.
  • Performs all tasks in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Knowledge and initiative to retrofit machines for operation as needed.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints, but can work with existing physical components to reproduce without prints.
  • Uses gages and measuring instruments to meet tolerance requirements.
  • Ability to setup, operate and troubleshoot CNC lathes and mills without assistance. Must be self-sufficient.
  • Ability to reduce setup time and machining through process improvements.
  • Must be proficient with HAAS and FANUC control.
  • Understands, interprets and edits G-code programming.
  • Recognizes, deploys and properly uses inserts, fixtures and tooling.
  • Understands and has the ability to perform tool wear offsets.
  • Assists in the organization and maintenance of the machine shop work environment, must be able and willing to perform bench work (injection mold repair and all machine shop practices) as requested.
  • Shop Floor program transfer and editing.
  • Ability to setup and operate CNC machining centers.
  • Calculate and set controls for proper machining.
  • Verify conformity and quality of finished parts.
  • Selecting and maintaining tools and fixtures.
  • Perform all regular maintenance and accuracy checks to ensure proper machine function.
  • Consult with the engineering department and production supervisor to resolve machining or assembly issues.
  • Provides constant feedback and input into process improvement within the department.
  • Complies with all quality policies, specifications, regulations and instructions.

Senior Machine Designer

Purpose: This position is responsible for preparing comprehensive working plans and full detailed drawings of parts, sub-assemblies, complete machine assemblies, bill of materials, and outsource procurement of machines and components.

Titled employee plans, designs, and coordinates the integration of machinery and equipment into manufacturing processes with a high level of proficiency. This is a top-level comprehensive project managing position, capable of full design skillset and troubleshooting complex mechanical functions while working completely independent and cohesively with owner and assigned project related personnel including owner and president, sales, field technical advisors and fabrication department personnel.

  • Calculate energy losses for buildings, using equipment such as computers, combustion analyzers, or pressure gauges.
  • Design integrated mechanical or alternative systems, such as mechanical cooling systems with natural ventilation systems, to improve energy efficiency.
  • Select or install combined heat units, power units, cogeneration equipment, or trigeneration equipment that reduces energy use or pollution as applicable.

  • Software navigational certification or experience a must: SolidWorks, AutoCad

Maintenance Supervisor

Manufacturing plant looking to add to our Maintenance Team!

The Maintenance Supervisor will be responsible for electrical and mechanical servicing of all aspects pertaining to top tier injection molding facility and efficient maintenance of production machinery and equipment, physical plant, utilities and grounds in accordance with state and federal regulations and company policies and procedures.

Assists the Maintenance Manager in safely troubleshooting, repairing, and executing all preventative maintenance tasks on injection molding machine related equipment.

 

Responsibilities (Include but are not limited to):

Assisting the Maintenance Manager with the following:

  • Overseeing maintenance of facility; oversee P&L for Maintenance department
  • Directing the operations and maintenance of all machinery to provide uninterrupted service
  • Analyzing machinery to ensure optimum effectiveness and proper maintenance
  • Developing schedules and managing a preventive maintenance program to maintain production machinery and equipment in proper working condition
  • Planning a continual work schedule to maintain all company property, thus promoting a safe and healthy work environment at all times
  • Supervising and coordinating tasks of employees in the maintenance, electrical and mechanical operations
  • Inspecting jobs in process and at completion to ensure the standards of workmanship and safety are maintained
  • Ensuring proper maintenance of facility machinery and building
  • Maintaining inventories of maintenance material, supplies and repair parts at required levels by initiating requisitions for purchase; periodically reviews inventory for proper upkeep at plant facilities
  • Recommending, planning and implementing equipment needs to improve production efficiency and/or achieve cost reduction
  • Guiding and managing outside contractors on in-house projects; ensures deadlines are met in absence of Maintenance Manager
  • Reports to Maintenance Manager

 

Requirements:

  • Must have 5+ years’ experience in supervisory role over a maintenance department
  • Experience in the plastic blow molding, injection molding industries, metal fabrication applications
  • Financial expertise
  • Must have 10+ years relevant maintenance experience
  • Must have electrical knowledge, strong mechanical background, organizational skills and leadership ability
  • Knowledge of automation is required
  • Knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations relative to plant operation and maintenance
  • Ability to use hand tools in a safe manner
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts and must be available to work on call as needed
  • Must be flexible; able to work extended hours and weekends when required
  • Perform general housekeeping
  • Bilingual is a plus but not required
  • Physical stamina and strength
  • Must have good communication skills
  • Must be able to read and write
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required
  • Must be able to work with all Managers and Supervisors
